Week 9-Storyboards-Cunningham

Scenario: Halves and Have Nots

The population has been stratified into two distinct classes as a result of compounded economic issues, technological developments, and the ol-dirty bomb. The well-to-do characters Odi Seus and Jaysun are residents of the Raymond Hill collective (from the midterm), one of the 13 nodal communities in the L.A. metro area populated by the affluent benificiaries of recent technological advancements including relative immortality. Genetic engineering, robotics, rapid custom assembly, and learning networks are the calling cards of this new class which feels progressively more at home with artificial personalities (who don't age) then with the 'outsiders' who inhabit the less desirable zones of the city. In an effort to maintain a stable economy in an uncertain world, the various collectives pool resources and exchange surpluses to maintain net gains in the now heterogeneous marketplace. Odi Seus is in charge of quality control for the manufacturing hub, while Jaysun is a chemical and mechanical engineer working on commercial
grade biosteel products.
On the flipside is Dink, a septegenarian who works for the DOT at the downtown rail hub. Dink is a resident of Santa Monica, a real shithole since the bomb went off. Dink's community is driven by a different form of socio-economics, a blend of capitalism and collectivism which is more from desperation than by choice. Crime is rampant and morality a four letter word. Dink has an enviable position, since he is able to acquire goods more readily through the black market channels, although he has yet to pursue this option since it comes with high risk. Shipping containers have become more or less tamper proof since Ol'Dirty and one risks life imprisonment or death by breaching them without proper authorization. Dink recieves constant offers from the Chinese Mob (Chinese goods are banned as a result of the proxy resource war in Africa) and is close to accepting a deal as he is dying from radiation poisoning and knows his family could use the money.

  1. Ol' Dirty, Dink and the Ghost coming soon on FOX! Well aside from some of the naming conventions, this is looking very entertaining and solid for development. The boards are very clear especially as you narrated them and carried the story through the sequence. Follow the posting on the homework with regard to picking 2 shots to illustrate the design. Try and parse out some of the narrative so that is can work well for that RMI connection where possible. MG
